bio.
Andrea Burelli is an interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin, originally from Venice, Italy. She works as a composer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, lyricist, visual artist, and radio host. In her current artistic practice, she explores the intersection between composition and expanded poetry, unfolding across vocal performance, electroacoustics, processed sonic material, analog sound synthesis and video. She engages with specific musical traditions while translating experimental compositional approaches and performative processes into a cohesive, personal and genre-defying musical language.
Burelli has worked on international projects and publications in Berlin, Chicago, Budapest, Granada, Athens, Cagliari, Rome, Bilbao and London.
She has released a prolific catalogue on imprints such as American Dreams, Rohs!, and Lontano Series. She has played at Suporbooth Festival for Moog, Hive Film Festival for Refuge Worldwide, Morphine Raum and at leading venues of Berlin’s avant-garde music scene, featuring collaborations with musicians such as: André
Vida, Rashad Becker, Werner Durand, Lucio Capece, Szolt Sőrés, Friede Merz, and string musicians of the Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop.
Her
current projects include collaborations as a lyricist, singer and violinist, with drone artists Abul Mogard (Houndstooth), Rafael
Anton Irisarri (Room40, Ghostly International), and dance experimental artist Gabber Eleganza (Presto!? Records, Never Sleep).
She was a fellow of the Amplify
Berlin music residency where she collaborated with James Young (Darkstar - Warp Records). She has received support from Musikfonds for her electro-acoustic compositions and for exploring off-market, cutting-edge software such as Bronze. She has received the support of Initiative
Musik for the direction, management and production of her last LP, Sonic Mystics for Poems. She received support by the Goethe-Institut for curating and participating in a joint interdisciplinary residency with painter Emilio Cerezo at Stress Studio Athens. She won the call Composing Sonic Futures by the Spatial Sound Institute for a commission of a piece for her ambient music and literary series How To Survive Difficult Times.
Andrea Burelli has produced music podcasts for Rinse France, Cashmere Radio, Radio Quântica, and Reboot FM, curating selections of experimental, electronic, and contemporary music. She is currently a resident DJ at Refuge Worldwide with Gems, a show devoted to traditional, classical, and experimental listening.
