bio.
Andrea
Burelli is a Berlin based composer, vocalist, and interdisciplinary
artist. Her work moves between sound synthesis, electroacoustic
textures, vocal music and an expanded poetic practice.
Her
latest projects include collaborations with musicians such as André
Vida, Rashad Becker, Lucio Capece, Friede Merz, Abul Mogard, Rafael
Anton Irisarri, and Gabber Eleganza. Burelli was a fellow of the Amplify
Berlin residency and has received support from Musikfonds, Initiative
Musik, the Goethe-Institut, Moog and the Spatial Sound Institute.
She
creates soundworlds where art song, contemporary composition, and
electronic currents meet, “as versatile as she herself,” as INM noted,
opening spaces that feel both ancient and forward-reaching. Her music
has been described as “a partial praise, a partial rejection, where the
new and the good emerge” (Groove). Critics speak of “etheric ambient
chamber music, where arcane folk and sacred musics elegantly mingle”
(Boomkat), and of “a folklore built from what beats in her chest, from a
voice able to suspend whatever surrounds her” (The New Noise).
Rockerilla hears in her work “an ancient and futuristic chant dedicated
to the Mediterranean,” while SoWhat writes of “an evocative landscape
that transcends genre with a charged emotional intensity.”
She is a resident DJ at Refuge Worldwide with Gems, a show devoted to traditional, classical, and experimental listening.
